2019 Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty Judges' Education Seminar and Workshop

Date: Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019  from 6 pm-9:30 pm.
Location: Ontario Convention Centre, Ontario, CA
Fee: $30 or $40 per couple sharing handout materials.

Pre-registration for the seminar is required. Please pre-register by October 5, 2019 by contacting the JEC, Ainslie Mills,
oriana@telus.net  (604) 882-0820.

Ringside tutoring will be offered Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019 through to the end of Best of Breed on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2018. 


The seminar is open to approved, provisional and applicant judges as well as GRCA CCA Category 1 and 2 evaluators.

We are delighted to have Dr. Joshua Stern of the University of California Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine with us to discuss basic genetic principles related to Golden Retriever inherited traits; how to use genetic testing to maximize health and breed characteristics; and the latest research data on genetic diversity.

Pigmentary Uveitis Research Clinic

October 22nd - October 24th




Dr. Wendy Townsend, MS, DVM, DAVOM of Purdue University and a primary researcher into PU will be
performing ultrasounds of Golden Retriever eyes. This noninvasive procedure is free of charge, is not painful or uncomfortable and has the potential to provide critical information for continuing research into this disease.

Dr. Townsend will examine any Golden Retrievers, healthy eyes or otherwise, 6 years and older. Goldens without pedigrees or those from a rescue situation are more than welcome to become a part of this research project. Dependent on the interest in this year’s clinic, the age requirement is subject to change. Dr Townsend is strongly encouraging Golden Retrievers 12 years and older and those previously seen at PU clinics to participate in this year’s clinic. A gift of
appreciation will be given to Goldens 12 years and older who have preregistered for the clinic. The clinic is limited to 125 dogs. Appointments will be arranged once judging schedules are announced.

DNA Blood Sample Draw Clinic

Field Site - Kaye Fuller, DVM will be available at the Field trial site along with Dottie Mikeska, DVM and Joe Mikeska, DVM for the DNA clinic. Location/date/time of field clinic to be announced.

The Golden Retriever Foundation is once again combining its ongoing DNA blood collection project with the additional service of collecting blood samples for DNA testing by Optigen LLC. There is no charge for the blood draws or shipping. GRF also absorbs the OFA CHIC fee for Goldens. Please check this website after September 8th or Facebook page for all updates.

For donating blood to the GRF projects with OFA and Broad Institute, please go to the GRF website, and print
out the forms. Since those forms require extensive information, it would be best to do that now. This will save you time on clinic day. Forms also available from g.clinchy@gmail.com.
